When you first contact MoveAbout Therapy Services about your assessment we’ll find out a little bit more about your needs so that we can offer the most suitable next steps.
The Process
We’ll ask a series of questions to ensure the right assessment process is in place for your family. Getting started will involve a 30 minute carer interview, followed by a 90 minute face to face assessment with one of our therapists. This includes review and observations of your child’s sensory processing and regulation, fine and gross motor skills, attention and focus, play and social skills, and involvement in activities of daily living. This may include one or more of the following assessments:
- Sensory Profile 2 (SP2)
- Sensory Processing Measure (SPM)
- Functional Emotional Assessment Scale (FEAS)
- Peabody Developmental Motor Scales (PDMS)
- Miller Function and Participation Scales (M-FUN)
- Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency (BOT-2)
- Beery-Buktenica Developmental Test of of Visual Motor Integration (VMI)
- Ayres Clinical Observations
During this session we’ll explore your child’s current developmental and functional abilities to help us to understand the specific challenges your child faces. From here we can discuss what course of action is needed to achieve the best possible outcomes for your child.
Your assessment will take place in one of our well-appointed clinics. The process includes the delivery of a written report, detailing assessment outcomes and recommendations for therapy. This is a useful resource when communicating with other health professionals and teachers in future because it provides a clear and detailed background.
After the assessment
When it comes to the development of our kids we get the best outcomes when we work as a team. So to support this we hold a 60-minute engagement session with parents and caregivers after the assessment. Here we can discuss the outcomes and recommendations of the assessment. This might involve more information about how we approach therapy at MoveAbout and the provision of tools and strategies to support the family.
Where therapy is the next step, sessions with your therapists will follow an agreed approach. Your sessions will also be scheduled at times best suited to your child and family. Therapy may be delivered in a weekly, intensive, or monthly format.
